How would you like to have breathing room like this?
This is the Charleston garden of the late Emily Whaley. Isn't it perfect?
If you haven't had the pleasure of reading Mrs. Whaley's two books, go get them now. She reminds me so much of my grandmother.
Also, thank you all for your well wishes. I am feeling much, much better. A late summer flu is just no fun. Fortunately, I was able to get away to the country for the holiday--and the breathing room was just what I needed.
Where do you go to breathe? Do you have a favorite garden that inspires? I'd love to hear about it.
I have always found Mrs. Whaley's garden to be simply perfect. The perfect size, the perfect selection of plants, the perfect ambiance. I do agree, her book is a gem.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you are feeling better!!
Gorgeous! I can just imagine sitting down at that table with a book while the Pug inspects that perfect hedge.
ReplyDeleteAlas, I've not adapted to outdoor life yet here in Texas. There seems to be a good 3-4 week span each fall and spring where the weather is well suited to it, and I need to take advantage in my yard this time around.
Happy to hear you're feeling better!
This garden is so dreamy. I am putting Mrs. Whaley's books on my GoodReads feed right away; thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments too...I truly appreciate it.
What a great place to breathe and enjoy some space.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
d
I got to take a peek while I was there!!!!
ReplyDeleteCharleston & Savannah as well, gardens are brimming with her inspirations.

I just received a copy of Mrs. Whaley's Garden as a present from a fellow blogger. Can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Whaley is a true inspiration. I have her book and often refer back to it for advice or tips. Lovely post and wishing you a happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling much better. My youngest son was recently diagnosed with H1N1 & he said it is the worst he has felt in his 23 years. He contracted it his first week back at University. Scary stuff. When the weather permits, I love to float in the swimming pool & stare into the fluffy white clouds to think. Makes me feel like a child.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you ~
Granny - simply breathtaking! Love it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are on the mend. Ick - the flu is the worst.
I recently attended a party at this home and I have to tell you it was beyond words. Enjoy!

Hi Granny:
ReplyDeleteOh how I miss living in Charleston. I love Mrs. Whaley books; gave my Mother-in-law one for X-mas while we were living there in Charleston. Hope your feeling better!
The garden is the best place to breath and this one looks to me like perfection, xv.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous I'd love to breathe here. lately I've been escaping with drives. Not as nice as this but ok.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I do wonder whether it would be high maintenance, though. I saw a home on the market that was gorgeous, and the gardens were gorgeous, but the owner had a gardener come several times a week because it needed so much work. I crossed the house off my list because I need to have a simple, low maintenance garden!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a breathing room except when I escaped into my library books!
