I just hate to see the joy of the season go out with the trash. I suppose all of this celebrating could be us Southerners looking for another excuse to get together and eat! 12th Night is the first time in the season that we make a King Cake--oh, yum! You know, it's a 'King Cake' to commemorate the arrival of the Wise Men/3 Kings to see the baby Jesus. (I know I'm jumping ahead--but, we quit baking King cakes at Mardi Gras--just before Lent begins.)
What do you do at your house? Are you somewhat relieved to have your routines back in order or do you want to carry on the celebrating?
It is kind of a bitter sweet thing for me when Christmas is over. In some ways I am ready to get back to a routine, but in others I am sad!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tradition your family has. I'm ready to pack up the decorations and start the new year. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I absol love Christmas - everything about it...but am ready to get back to normal now. Enjoy the remainder of your celebrating!!
ReplyDeletewhat a good idea!! I think I will leave my tree up until the 5th as well
ReplyDeleteI'm milking it through New Years!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Granny:
ReplyDeleteBeing in a New Orleanean Catholic family - basically it's not over until it over! Happy New Year!
i'm always sad to take the decorations too. i usually wait to the first of the year. enjoy your celebrating!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! We are Episcopalian and really should do it this way too.
ReplyDeleteI'll be sad to take down the decorations today, but so happy to have the work behind me. It has to happen at some point... I would like to think I celebrate the birth of Christ all year long. :-) I'm enjoying this holiday a lot although part of me is craving some normalcy and routine. Happy New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteAs a good Catholic - I keep the decorations and the holiday merriment going until the Epiphany.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up my mother had three gifts waiting for us under the tree. After mass, naturally.
Glad I'm not last man celebrating. :)
Happy New Year!
