No, no, Southern Accents!

I'm just sick over this!
Southern Accents is no longer going to be published.
The announcement was made yesterday that the September/October issue would be the last.

Scarry to think that I have copies that are almost this old. The magazine began in 1977.

July/August 2009 Cover

Honestly, where will we turn now for great Southern interiors?
Really, I want to know.
Ideas, anyone?
Ugh. This just makes me sick.

On a brighter note, the Consummate Hostess has given me a kind award:
She thinks I'm a "Great Read" and I'm flattered.
Thank you, Consummate Hostess, you a great read too!

Merci!

I am overdue in thanking a most gracious blogger,
Lisa Porter, for giving the Granny Smith Green Blog
the Lemonade Gratitude Award.
Let's pretend that this is my hand-written thank you note!

I was first introduced to Lisa's site by a fellow blogger.  This darling blogger frantically wrote to me saying, "You two have been separated at birth!  You've got to go visit The Lisa Porter Collection blog!"  Well, with words like that, how could I not check it out.

When the blog page opened, I was thrilled with the beauty of it.  What a compliment I had received--to be compared with that!  Wow!  Her blog is a true collection of beautiful images--and a kind soul behind in all.

Just to whet your appetite, here's a tid bit from her profile,
"(the blog is) a place for those who have an appreciation of family, friends
 and a meaningful life.
It is my devotion to the casual, elegant manners of my southern heritage
that have led me to create this collection."

Sounds good, doesn't it?

*************************************************************************************

A few more words of thanks are due to several creative bloggers.  The dear people behind these blogs have sent me kind words of encouragement and delight me with their inspiration.

I do hope that if you aren't familiar with the following blogs, you will pour yourself another cup of coffee and stop by for a visit.  Each one different from the next and all delightful!

In no particular order, my I present:

style, sass and humor--deep in the heart of Texas
[Joni1.jpg]

and she does.  I've got to meet this gal.
Scot and me
(Katiedid & Tartanscot--blog world's are colliding Jerry!)

my dear brother in design--we were separated at birth!

or should be say, blue-eyed about to pop mama-to-be any day now

a.k.a. Hospy or Kappa Prep.  One of the very first blogs I read.  Precious.

Be sure to visit all of these great blogs--and tell them Granny Smith Green sent you!

I'd like to discover other great blogs too.
Do you have a great blog to recommend--yours or another you find fabulous?
Leave me a comment here and I'll be sure to visit.  Thanks!

Five Star Sea Island *****

Friends, I hardly know where to start!  My trip to Sea Island was just wonderful.  I rested, I relaxed, I slept late!  I think I took enough pictures to write posts for a year!  I hope to share some of them with you, bit by bit.
(Thank you to Sea Island Company for the use of some of the pictures shown below.)

The Solarium--my tea time favorite spot!

To start, I'd like to set the stage for those of you who have not been:
Imagine if Blackberry Farm is the fine country house then  The Cloister is the elegant beach house.  Southern, elegant, hospitable, and special are all words that come to mind.  Sounds great, doesn't it?

Mobil Five-Star
Five Stars you say?  Yes.
"Criteria to earn a Mobil Five-Star rating are stringent, based on more than 750 standards for hotels, more than 250 for restaurants, and more recently 450 different guidelines for spas, making it the most rigorous and comprehensive in the industry. To achieve Mobil Five-Star status, properties must then meet or exceed Mobil's bar-setting service standards, which are determined through an unannounced, undercover service evaluation conducted by Mobil Travel Guide's expert inspectors."

Congratulations are in order.
The Sea Island Company received four different 5 Star ratings:
1.  The Cloister Hotel (this is a view from the back side)

2.  The Cloister Spa--absolutely unbelievable!

3.  The Georgian Room (Restaurant in The Cloister)
(Sorry for the photo duplication.)

4.  The Lodge (golf haven hotel on St. Simons)

This is just a taste of what is yet to come!  Any special request or questions about the stay, please leave a comment or send an email.  I always enjoy hearing from you.

Honest

What a kind award from Hopsy or Kappa Prep from Manicures and Monograms! She's such a doll and fun blogger.  We seem to share a similar design aesthetic as well as several other things!  If we were in the same town, we would be museum pals for sure!  She has bestowed upon me the Honest Scrap Award: brilliant in content or design. Wow!
(Here's Hopsy.  Is she cute, or what?)

I do hope that all of you have a good time looking at my blog. I think it is so important that we surround ourselves with things of beauty. DON'T GET ME WRONG--I'm not just talking about material possessions--I'm talking about wonderful, loving people too! Life is too short for us not to embrace one another and the lovely all around us! (That beauty includes the smiling faces of little people with mashed bananas and cereal all over the place!)

Now I'm supposed to give you some honest facts about myself.  Well, here goes:

1.  I'm particular about my shoes.

2.  I only drink Coca Cola when I eat pizza.  Other than that, I don't consume soft drinks.

3.  I need at least nine hours of sleep to be a decent member of society.

4.  Today is my birthday.
Antique silver goblets hemstitched monogrammed linens by Leontine Linens and a colorful floral arrangement give the table timeless appeal.
(and this is my fall china pattern-but just a web picture)

5.  I love good conversation: story telling , front porch sitting conversation more than food.
