No, no, Southern Accents!

I'm just sick over this!
Southern Accents is no longer going to be published.
The announcement was made yesterday that the September/October issue would be the last.

Scarry to think that I have copies that are almost this old. The magazine began in 1977.

July/August 2009 Cover

Honestly, where will we turn now for great Southern interiors?
Really, I want to know.
Ideas, anyone?
Ugh. This just makes me sick.

On a brighter note, the Consummate Hostess has given me a kind award:
She thinks I'm a "Great Read" and I'm flattered.
Thank you, Consummate Hostess, you a great read too!

  2. Hi Granny:
I can't believe this! Southern Accents & House Beautiful are the two magazine that I look forward to getting each month. In fact, my buddy Cruella gives me Southern Accents every year for x-mas.

  3. It's awful. Another great decor mag bites the dust. Still miss Domino.

  4. Really. What in the world is happening to all our great magazines? Soon, the only thing left to retrieve from the mailbox will be the light bill.:(

  5. I know. It is so sad that these publications cannot survive any longer. I fear that once they are gone we will never get them back. Here's something to make you feel better. DD called and asked me to send this to you:

  6. This one really is a blow. One of the best. I have always loved their Christmas issue and was thinking about it just the other day. I am glad I have saved so many of these, but am just sick about the fact that there will be no more.

  7. Good design magazines are stopping their publications left and right ... really a bummer. I just hope they would get a site with digital images.

  8. I never really read any of the other magazines that closed....but Southern Accents has always been one of my absolute favorites. The style and content really spoke to me, and there were always so many beautiful homes from Atlanta - homes that I pass by on a daily basis. There were so many great Southern designers whose careers were launched by a feature in Southern Accents.

  12. ?!? Oh, no. I'm a "SA" subscriber, and that magazine has featured mightily in my Southern Belle fantasy dream house dreaming. What a shame.

Raise your hand if you're tired of These Difficult Times wreaking havoc on everything. Ugh.

  13. Congrat's on your award from the Consummate Hostess. You definitely both have great reads!

Nothing I can say can ease the pain of another one of our beloved design magazine's biting the dust. Can you say, "I hate the recession!?"

  14. I know, I know, it hurts. I'm from about as far from the South as you can get in the Continental US and have subscribed for years. The only thing stopping the tears/frustration is that I have found you, Granny! We leave it to beautiful, well researched blogs like yours to fill the shelter mag gap...

  16. Thank you for your lovely comment, with regards to "life messing up idealism", perhaps allow your idealism to invigorate life. You always have something sweet to say, I appreciate it.

I had seen your posts on Southern Accents before; perhaps their readers can encourage them to do an online version, thus saving them money but allowing people to enjoy it in some form?
